As an Arts Educator I have worked with both children and adults. I regard the vital interaction with students as a creative process and art- in its own right. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to be an active participant in artists’ communities as an artist and an arts educator in New York, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area and Yerevan, Armenia. As a result, I have been rewarded by engaging in discourse about art and art education from varied perspectives and contexts- all mutually in agreement about benefits to all learners in the context of art education.
As a teacher I aim to encourage students while being guided by the students interests and individualistic vision. Essentially, teaching rules of safety and mutual respect, meanwhile understanding craftsmanship is stressed. Paramount features of my teaching practice combine literacy and appreciation for art history and the critical analysis of a work of art.
As a ceramics teacher, and student in ceramics classes, I have had my most fruitful creative and learning experiences. Viola Frey, Arthur Gonzales, Philip Cornelius and Art Nelson are among some of my former professors in California that have left a lasting impression on me as a learner. They each contributed something unique, ultimately inspiring me to seek out and pursue a career in Art and Ceramics Education, in addition to creating my work as an Artist.
